CeeDee Lamb has already won Championship Game MVP honors, so now it is time for the rest of the awards.
Best Waiver Wire Pickup
This easily goes to Kyren Williams for Alice in Horns. Williams went undrafted in the league's start up draft. Cam Akers was supposed to be the Rams starting back, but he found himself in the Rams doghouse almost right off the bat, much to the chagrin of Dynastic Dan, who drafted him in the 7th round.
Alice in Horns scooped up Kyren Williams, who by week 2 had won the starting job. It was off to the races for Kyren Williams, as he had a mammoth fantasy season. He finished as the fourth highest scoring running back in the NFL, with 240.5 fantasy points. He had about 1300 combined rushing and receiving yards, to go with 15 touchdowns. All while missing several games on the IR in the middle of the season. Great production from an undrafted player. What a pickup for Alice.
Defensive Player of the Year
This is an easy one for me. It's got to go to Foyesade Oluokun for The Killing Fields. The Killing Fields had one of the best defenses in the league this year, putting up big numbers in nearly each and every single game. Oluokun was a big part of that success. He finished as the #1 scorer among IDP, with 263.25 points scored on defense. He had 108 solo tackles (1st), 58 assisted tackles, 2.5 sacks, 6 passes defensed, and 1 defensive touchdown scored.
Oluokun was the first defensive player taken in the draft, selected in the third round. The Killing Fields clearly knew what they were doing when they picked this player. Oluokun is 28 years old and looks to be a defensive force in the Rad Dynasty for many years to come. Hats off to a great season!
Offensive Player of the Year
In the real NFL, this is known as the best player who isn't a quarterback award. This season, there is no one else this award can go to aside from Christian McCaffrey from team Bluth Company. He was far and away the best non-QB this season, scoring 360.8 fantasy points. That's sixth among all players this season, QB or not.
McCaffrey accounted for over 2,000 yards of total offense. 1,459 yards rushing and 564 yards receiving. He scored 21 combined TDs, while also catching 67 passes. McCaffrey was a massive reason that Bluth Company was the third highest scoring team in the league this year.
Rookie of the Year
Puka was drafted in the 17th round of our startup draft. Every single team in the league passed on him at least 16 times. Betcha no one will make that mistake in redraft leagues next season! He was drafted behind fellow rookies Quentin Johnston and Jaxon Smith-Njigba, and he easily outperformed them both. Puka looks like he is going to be a star in this league for Alice's Team for a very long time. What a find.
Rad Dynasty MVP
The awards basically handed themselves out this season. There was no one else I could think of that would be better suited to winning this award than Jalen Hurts. He is the second highest scoring player in football with 403.72 fantasy points. He accounted for 38 total touchdowns. He started essentially every game for ned's rollers, leading him to the highest scoring point total in the league. He then went on to have a big postseason and lift ned to the league title. If that doesn't scream MVP, I don't know what does.
Manager of the Year:
ned's rollers
Ned continues to dominate this season and the awards season. Not only did he finish as the best team in the regular season record-wise, he was also the highest scoring team in the league. What is just as impressive is that ned accomplished this while giving up nearly 149 points a game. There was almost no margin for error, due to always facing everyone's best, and he still came out with the best record in the league. Compare that to Bluth Company, the third highest scoring team in the league. They gave up 148 points a game and only finished 7-8. Sometimes it is better to be lucky than good. And ned was both!
Ned dominated both the regular season and the postseason. He outscored his two playoff opponents by a combined 85 points. That means ned won his playoff games by over 40 points per game. That's crazy. Complete dominance! There is no one else who deserves this award more. Ned will look to keep it up next season, and in the years beyond. He's built not only to succeed now, but succeed as a dynasty team, too. Don't be surprised to see this team primed and ready to repeat when next season rolls around.
Oh, and by the way. Remember before the season started (in one of my preview posts) how I said the winner would get a small reward for winning this season? It's nothing special monetary-wise, but it is a souvenir that is important to this league in a historical context. It will be even moreso as the years go by. It is yours for the taking, ned. I'll keep what it is as a surprise for now, but if you send me your address I can mail it out to you ASAP.
Worst Manager of the Year:
There's no punishment for finishing last in this league, so you'll have to settle for some good-natured ribbing. Here's a picture of Timmy (Tbone) during Christmas of 2021. Isn't he lovely? If you look on the lower left hand corner of the picture, you'll see Channing in the red plaid. Future Rad Dynasty champion!
Jokes aside, TBone should have a solid team next year with his receiving core of Amon Ra St. Brown and Tyreek Hill. Armed with the #1 pick in the draft, this team could draft a generational talent that will be on this team for the next decade. Who will it be, though???
***
That's it for this year's award show. Maybe I can plan this out better next year, and have some better awards. I suppose I can add comeback player of the year and comeback manager of the year - but those will have to wait for the end of season 2.
Before we go, one last reminder to send in your keepers, due by January 8th. I'm keeping track of them HERE. Once the 8th comes and the picks are finalized, the offseason will officially begin.
I'll make a separate post with everyone's rosters that I will update periodically throughout the offseason if anyone makes a trade or wants to drop a player. I'll also include everyone's "assets" AKA their draft picks underneath their team roster. That way we can keep an eye on any changes made in the offseason, either through player trades, draft pick trades, or drops. It'll all make sense when you see it happen, I am sure.
Have a good offseason, all of you! Thanks for making this a successful first season.
