Just six more weeks left in the regular season and things are cluttered at the top of the standings. Next week is going to be absolutely massive, as there are two games that will be crucial to sorting out this mess. We'll dive into that, but first I have to give my normal player of the week props. The honors this week go to Joe Burrow for Alice in Horns. Burrow's 38.14 points led all scorers and helped lift Alice to 6-3 on the season. Speaking of that game...
Alice in Horns (6-3) 163.19 vs Bluth Company 115.74 (0-9)
Alice moves into a virtual tie with TDs or Bust for the 4th spot in the playoffs. This is one of the crucial week 10 matchups I was talking about. The winner will move to 7-3 and will have an inside track to the postseason, as they will hold the tiebreaker since these teams only face off once against each other this season.
Bluth Company drops to 0-9 and is in line to pick up a stud player in next year's draft, like Jeanty, McMillan, Burden, or anyone Bluth is interested in snagging. Should be fun to watch. I still believe this team could have a Fergalicious-like comeback in 2025.
Speaking of Fergalicious...
Fergalicious (8-1) 188 vs My Team (3-6) 145.75
My Team's hot streak comes to an end. Not really to any fault of their own - as they had a good scoring game. Hard to beat a team that scores 188 though!
Fergalicious retakes first place in the Rad Dynasty with this scoring outburst. They are tied at 8-1 with Dynastic Dan - who they coincidentally play in week 10. That's the other big matchup I was talking about. The loser will drop to 8-2 and suddenly has to worry about being overtaken by ned, who has been great once again this year.
Speaking of ned...
ned's rollers (7-2) 160.15 vs TDs or Bust (6-3) 156.52
This was a great matchup between two teams at 6-2. Ultimately ned eeked out the win in a game that was back and forth all weekend long.
Ned finds himself just a game out of first, despite Fergalicious and Dynastic Dan dominating the regular season seemingly all year long. Ned has been hanging in there and will not go away.
It was a tough loss for Perry, but he hangs onto the #4 seed for now. Next week's matchup vs Alice will be huge, like I already said. Hyuuuuge!
Speaking of hyuuuuge....
Teflon Don (4-5) 143.56 vs Tbone's Terrific Team (4-5) 111.68
It's been a tough luck season for Teflon Don, but his playoff hopes haven't been completely dashed yet. This was a must win against TBone, and he took care of business. If he wants any chance to make the postseason, though, he HAS to win against ned in week 10. If he loses, it could be over. The league is very top heavy this year, and it is hard to see a team with 6 losses make the playoffs.
TBone's team continues its slide. This is now Timmy's 4th loss in a row after a 4-1 start. Luckily they play 1-8 BDB next week. Someone has to win that game, right?
Speaking of BDB...
Dynastic Dan (8-1) 166.55 vs BDB's Jet Setters (1-8) 133.51
This was a closer game than I thought it would be, as BDB's team blew past its projections by over 40 points. They may have had a chance if they had actually decided to take injured players like Stefon Diggs out of the starting lineup. It's looking like a lost season for BDB, who is normally very active and a good competitor. I don't know what's happening this season.
On the other side of things, Dynastic Dan is now 8-1 on the year tied with Fergalicious in the standings. That week 10 matchup is going to be so, so important for both teams. The winner is essentially a lock for the playoffs, while the loser could still fall out of the picture if things go downhill for their team. That would be just my luck.
Speaking of luck....
The Killing Fields (3-6) 127.49 vs Show me the TDs (4-5) 127.32
Show me the TDs has had some really bad luck this year. Fifth in the league in scoring, but they have given up the most points BY FAR in the league. And now this loss by 0.17 points. Ouch. I suppose a last minute stat adjustment could come in (that actually happened to me in another league a few weeks ago) but you cannot really count on that. Next week against My Team is an absolute must win for this team. Despite the 0-5 start to the season, My Team is no pushover.
The Killing Fields ekes out a win here. I had almost given up on this team for dead, but they've got a sliver of life left in them. They look to keep things going next week against 0-9 Bluth Company. No one wants to be the team that gives Bluth their first win, but it is going to happen at some point. I am thinking it could be here. But we shall see.
--
We'll end as always with a look at the standings. Should be a fun week 10, as four of the top five teams play against each other. At the bottom of the standings, the race for next year's #1 pick should be interesting. Winless Bluth has the inside track but BDB has been god awful and may just drop to the bottom by the end of the year.
I'd say you can draw a line underneath the 7th place team (Teflon Don) to separate the contenders from the pretenders. I'd be stunned if any one of those bottom five teams even came close to a playoff berth. Who will make the playoffs is still a tossup. It seems like the top three teams have the inside track, but anyone could go on a skid and anyone could get hot at any time.
One thing is for sure: every single game is essentially a playoff game from this point on. That's why I made it so only four teams make the postseason. This league is supposed to he difficult. Every game is supposed to matter. And from this point on, it is do or die for many of these contending teams. Six weeks left, who will make the top four?
