The Rad Dynasty: 2023 Season, Week Two Recap

So here we are, two weeks into The Rad Dynasty and boy oh boy has this already been an interesting season. Between an onslaught of injuries, uncharacteristically bad performances by star players, and shocking fantasy risers that no one saw coming, I'd like to think that the fantasy football season in general has been a weird one so far.

First off, player of the week once again goes to someone from T-Bone's Terrific Team. Kirk Cousins threw for 364 yards and 4 touchdowns, racking up a whopping 36.56 fantasy points. Good job, T-Bone's Team.

Before we continue let me just say that I don't have time to put as much work into this week's recap. Sorry, not sorry. Busy with work and dealing with an absolutely insane 3 year old, who I hope to have in this league some day. I hope you enjoy it anyway.

Dynastic Dan (1-1) 123.95 vs Turd Ferguson (0-2) 119

The first ever Battle of Brothers resulted in a dud game from both teams, who massively underperformed their predictions. I ended up squeaking out a win, but it does not exactly inspire confidence in my team going forward. I am currently the lowest scoring team in the entire league. My running backs suck. What the hell, Cam Akers? My tight ends are doing nothing. My receivers, who I was soooo high on, have not done a whole lot. Jamarr Chase, where are you? The only thing keeping me afloat is my quarterback, Justin Herbert. And individual defensive players, which is a bit of a surprise. All across the board, they are making a bigger impact than I had anticipated. I may have relied a bit too much on the youth movement and the dynasty aspect when drafting this team. In the long run I'll be fine, but this year is going to be a struggle.

My brother Chris can't be too pleased with his performance, either. Massive underperformances across the board. He had 4 players predicted to score more than 10 points who only scored like 4 or 5. He's got to be wondering where AJ Brown has disappeared to this season. And Miles Sanders. And Dameon Pierce. He'll turn it around, though. Looking at his team, I don't think these players will stay quiet for long.

TDs or Bust (2-0) 171.44 vs T-Bone's Terrific Team (1-1) 139.66

This was an easy win for TDs or Bust, who have raced out of the gates to a 2-0 start. Tee Higgins and Bijan Robinson had big games in the win. If Bijan can stay healthy, he is going to be a dynasty beast. I know a lot of people might be kicking themselves for passing on him in the draft. Overall I think this is one of the better teams in the league, and I wouldn't be surprised to see them nab one of the elusive four playoff spots.

T-Bone had huge performances from Tyler Lockett and Kirk Cousins (the highest scoring player this week), but couldn't put it together in all phases of the game. The auto drafted defensive players are killing him. Two of them put up goose eggs in this game. Overall he still put up a high amount of points, and would have beaten 6 other teams this week.

My Team (2-0) 137.62 vs Thunder Thighs (0-2) 136.78

This was easily the closest game in the young history of this league, and it might be for a while. 0.86 points is the margin of victory. My Team was paced by Jared Goff and Tony Pollard. The big story though is losing Nick Chubb for the season with an injury. Ouch! And maybe for his career too. That sucks, especially in dynasty.

Lamar Jackson and Devonta Smith led the way for Thunder Thighs with big performances. Unfortunately the rest of the team didn't pull their weight, particularly the running backs, who had a brutal performance. Tough luck loss for Mike, as he had several players on his bench who had big games and could have led his team to a win. Got to love that and hate it about fantasy football at the same time.

Alice in Horns (1-1) 168.08 vs BDBs Jet Setters (0-2) 127.94

Alice in Horns had the second highest scoring output of the week. Alice has done a tremendous job picking up Kyren Williams from waivers and drafting Puka Nacua. As someone who wasted a 7th round draft pick on Cam Akers, I am seething with jealousy, haha. I can't think of a single person that would have predicted enormous breakout seasons from them. And here they are lifting Alice to a blowout win. Alice has dealt with a lot of injuries on her team, and I am impressed by how she's managed to excel despite them.

BDB had big performances from Saquon Barkley and Keenan Allen, but they were not enough. Poor performances across the rest of the team sealed his doom. And now Saquon is injured. Oh no! But he gets the chance to bounce back next week against T-Bone's Team, which has been dealing with injuries of its own. BDB hopes to get better performances from Justin Fields the rest of the way. As far as fantasy goes, he was a top QB last season. This season has been brutal for him though.

Ned's Rollers (2-0) 162.82 vs Show me the TDs (1-1) 135.16

This was a blowout as Ned's team continues to impress. Jalen Hurts, Kenneth Walker, and Ceedee Lamb all showed up to play. And collectively his IDP did really good, too. From a dynasty perspective, the bench is loaded with quality players like JSN, Jordan Addison, Zach Charbonnet, Jonathan Mingo, and Jameson Williams. This could be a team to watch for a long, long time. I questioned whether or not they'd be competitive right away, but they are blowing away all those doubts.

Sean's team underperformed, but Deebo Samuel and Justin Jefferson had big games. He has a nice core of players, too. The running backs all had down weeks, though. And so did Tua, who had such a huge week one. This is a team that I think can bounce back nicely. Which they probably will because they play my sad, pathetic team in week three!

Bluth Company 180.32 (1-1) vs The Killing Fields (1-1) 159.40

This Survivor Sucks duel between Franklin Bluth and Colby Rules All resulted in a high scoring affair.

Bluth Company showed why they were projected to go undefeated by Yahoo after the draft. 180.32 points is the current record for most points scored in a game in this league. He had three 20 point scorers: Josh Allen, Christian McCaffrey, and T.J. Hockenson. He got solid contributions across the board as well. Almost everyone on his team scored 10 points. This is going to be a team to reckon with this year. And he's got Jerome Ford after the Chubb injury. Watch out everyone!

The Killing Fields has to be coming away from this with a moral victory. Overall they are the highest scoring team in the entire league so far. His IDPs are proving week one was not a fluke. He's got Patrick Mahomes, Davante Adams, and Brandon Aiyuk. His running backs are solid, especially if D'Andre Swift turns into a star with Philly. If anything will be this team's downfall, it will be its thin bench.

Week two: in the books! Here are the updated standings.

Keep in mind that I posted in the rules that tiebreakers will be determined by head to head matchups, when there is a tie between two teams. I am going to address this now so there is no confusion about it later on down the road. If there is a tie between three or more teams, the tiebreaker is points. Between two teams: head to head. Keep that in mind going forward. The posted Yahoo standings may not actually reflect the real standings. Right now it does not change anything, because there are 3 three-way ties (2-0, 1-1, and 0-2) but this will change later in the season as team records become more unique. Let's say Alice and Killing Fields are tied at 6-2 later in the season. Alice has scored more points. The Killing Fields went 1-0 in their head to head matchup. The Killing Fields would actually be above Alice in the standings, despite Yahoo saying she'd be above him because of points. I hope that makes sense.

There is a scenario where this may affect who is in the playoffs if there is a tie later on down the road. Yahoo may say one team is in the playoffs, when reality they are not. Let's say 3 teams are 12-3. They claim the 3 top seeds. Tiebreaker for seeding is points because there is a 3 way tie. For the 4th spot, 2 teams are 10-5. The tiebreaker for the final spot would go to the team that won the regular season head to head matchup. If it is a 1-1 tie, then it goes to points.

If you have any questions about this, ask them now or forever hold your peace!
